*The founder of Nike is an Oregon alum – hence why their sports team has all the latest and greatest Nike apparel. The Oregon Ducks athletics teams are well-known for all kinds of uniforms with crazy combos and colors. They come out with something new and different every season!
*The University of Oregon is the only University to have a Disney character as their mascot – Donald Duck. He wasn’t always the official mascot though! Back in the 1940s, the UO mascot, Puddles, resembled a certain Disney duck. When the Disney family met with the Oregon athletic director Leo Harris in 1947, the two men agreed over a handshake that the school could use Donald Duck as its OFFICIAL mascot.
*The University of Oregon was founded in 1876 and is one of the oldest universities on the west coast.
*Despite having an incredible football program, the UO Ducks have NEVER won a national championship. Maybe 2019 is the year??
*The home of the Oregon Ducks football team is Autzen Stadium. And Autzen is an Oregon STATE alumnus. How crazy is that?
*If you have ever been to a Duck game, then you have heard the song “Shout” played between the 3rd and 4th quarters. This tradition stems from the fact that several locations on campus were used in the filming of National Lampoon’s Animal House. For instance, the most known scene being the toga party scene featuring the song.
*The “Civil War” – the match-up between the University of Oregon and Oregon State is the seventh oldest rivalry in college football!
