Getting to Texas Tech

Deep in the heart of Texas lies Lubbock. Okay, we’re not sure if it’s the heart or not, but Lubbock is home to Texas Tech, which is home to Jones AT&T Stadium and the Red Raiders. If you have a tailgating service at Jones AT&T Stadium lined up, they’ll help you find it.

Driving

I-27 runs north and south through Lubbock, and you can take Highway 82 or Highway 62 west to Texas Tech. From 82, exit at Marsha Sharp Freeway West and turn south on University Avenue. From 62, exit and go north on University Avenue. Either way, you’ll get right to the stadium.

Flying

The largest airport close by is Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, which is just 12 minutes from the stadium.

Ridesharing

Don’t expect your Uber or Lyft to be able to drop you off right next to the stadium; it’ll be way too busy. You’ll be able to get close by stopping at some of the smaller streets on campus, but try to stay south of Highway 82 and west of University Avenue. They’re busy roads and trying to cross them can be a pain.

Shuttle

On game day, Citibus will shuttle fans for $5 per person starting three hours before kickoff through one hour after the game ends. Pickup is in two locations:

  • North of John Walker Soccer Complex (Texas Tech Pkwy and 10th Street)
  • Northwest of Health Sciences Center (ADA Only, Texas Tech Pkwy and 5th Street)

There’s a new drop-off location, too, on the north end of the Engineering Key for those wanting to go to Raider Alley.

Parking

Wondering where to tailgate at Jones AT&T Stadium? Hold your horses. First things first — let’s talk about where to park.

Red Raider Club Member Parking

First, check out the parking map on the Red Raider Club’s website. You’ll notice a familiar pricing structure. What’s that structure? Close spots are expensive, far spots are less so. Red Raider Club member parking can be pricy and is available only to contributors to the RRC Excellence Fund.

The Red Raider Club spots cost $125 for lots E through Q (the campus names these spots differently; refer to the map for their names). The closer the spot, the more you better have donated (anywhere from $100 to $3,500).

For the closes spots, lots A through C (D is under construction), you’ll need to have donated between $5,000 and $10,000! How much are those spots? Nothing. They figure once you’ve spent over $5K, you can have a spot on the house.

Red Raider RV Parking

Reserve your Red Raider RV space for an eye-watering $2,500. You can also get season parking for your car here for $295.

S-1 Parking

S stands for “so far away, you guys.” These lots are across Marsha Sharp Freeway and on the west side of Texas Tech Parkway. Really, it’s not so bad if you use the shuttles. Plus, you can park your RV here! Cars cost $60 for the season, and RVs are $400. But you can get a 30-amp hook-up RV spot for $675 and a 50-amp spot for $725.

USA Auto Parking

Just west of the United Supermarkets Arena is a massive lot where you can get season parking for your car for $60. And hey, now you’re on the right side of Texas Tech Parkway and Marsha Sharp Freeway!

ADA Parking

There’s free parking for the disabled by the Health Sciences Center. This is where Citibus makes its ADA pickups.

Free Fan Parking

Lots by the National Ranching Heritage Center, and by 4th and 5th Streets as they intersect with North Texas Tech Parkway, are free to park in. Just check the signs before you do so.

Tailgating at Texas Tech University

How to Tailgate at Jones AT&T Stadium

You want to go tailgating at Jones AT&T Stadium, so how and where can you do it?

RaiderGate

No, this isn’t some Red Raider-related scandal. RaiderGate is the name of the location where tailgating at Jones AT&T Stadium is allowed to take place. It’s in the R-1 Lot on campus, and it’s available to Texas Tech University Students only. Yep, to get a RaiderGate pass, you have to be a student and log in.

The good news is that the passes are free! Students can reserve two passes, and student organizations can reserve six.

RaiderGate hours begin four hours before kickoff and end at kickoff. Be aware that you’d better be there at least one hour before kickoff because if you’re not in your tailgating spot by then, the gates will be shut.

Passholders check in on 15th Street and Detroit Avenue at the entry station. Also, passes aren’t unlimited. There is a finite number, so get them while you can.

Tailgating Rules

You knew there would be rules. Even a tailgating service at Jones AT&T Stadium has to follow the rules. Now, if you’ve gotten a tailgate equipment rental service to provide your gear, it’ll be a little easier on you. But you still have to behave yourself.

  • No glass containers
  • Get a RaiderGate cup as you enter — it’ll be the only thing you can drink from
  • No kegs
  • No keg, funnel, shot, or other container-based drinking games
  • No drop-off vehicles are allowed to bring tailgating supplies or tailgaters
  • Street-legal vehicles only
  • No oversized cookers
  • No oversized vehicles
  • Don’t harm the property or landscaping
  • No hammocks
  • Anchor your dang tents
  • Put trash in trash cans and recycling in recycling bins
  • Put hot coals in coal disposal bins
  • No pets (yes, service animals are fine)
  • Secure your tailgating stuff before you go into the stadium

Play nice and you’ll have a good time!

What About Non-Students?

Just because you’re not a student doesn’t mean you can’t have fun before the game.

Raider Alley

Raider Alley is the family-friendly tailgating area. It opens three hours before kickoff. There’s a ton of freshly barbecued food and live concerts, and it all takes place near the Frazier Alumni Pavilion. It’s a good time — last year Shaquille O’Neal was DJ, for Pete’s sake!

Bars and Restaurants

If you want a chair, air conditioning, and walls, then you’ve got some great bar options. Whether you’ve lined up a tailgating service at Jones AT&T Stadium or not, these are still great places to go before and after a game:

Here you can grab a drink and shout at the TVs showing other games or grab a drink and relax. Your choice.

Hotels

Maybe you did the smart thing and got a tailgating service at Jones AT&T Stadium. They take care of all of the gear, and you can just go back to your room at one of these hotels:

With your adventure tailgating at Jones AT&T Stadium at an end, you can head home satisfied that you had the best time possible. Good luck!
